Collection and services of the library

The Library of the National Institute of Criminology is a non-public specialised library. Our main objective is to provide services primarily to the researchers of the Institute and of the prosecutor’s offices. However, on the basis of prior registration, any professional interested in criminology may access the library, but those falling in the latter category cannot borrow documents. (The documents are placed in locked glass cabinets due to the location of the Library; they can only be accessed with the help of the librarian.)

This means that the books purchased by the Library are the books that are necessary for the research carried out by the Institute or that are requested by the researchers.

The collection of the Library covers the following topics: violent crime, children and young people and crime, protection of society and crime control, reactions to crime, globalisation and crime, risks and prevention, economic crime and crime against property, state structure, public power and regional issues.

As the Institute is a relatively small organisation, the Library is a subscriber to 14 current periodicals. Some of them are English and German periodicals: The British Journal of Criminology, European Journal of Criminology, Kriminalistik, Kriminologisches Journal, Monatsschrift für Kriminologie und Strafrechtsreform.
